goldfinches

December

Goldfinches in their less vibrant but lovely winter finery. Carolina chickadees, flitting from tree to tree. A cardinal amid bare branches. Deep fog on the morning drive. The subtle ecstasy of interesting work to do. Reading the holiday event choices in the newspaper weekend guide. A turkey sandwich with pickles, lettuce, mozzarella and sauerkraut. The comfort food of a 50 degree windless day.

Tomorrow I hope to go bird-watching with the Audubon Society at the Heard Museum. This weekend I hope to also ride my bicycle, listen to music, mail out holiday cards, buy gifts on-line, attend a religious service and do laundry in the new dryer.
