memory lane and mighty mississipp.

I read weblog entries from past Octobers. One October, I ruminated about the puzzle of giving advice to others. Another October, I noted the passing of an uncle who had been a tailgunner in World War Two. Another year I visited the Texas State Fair, and enjoyed in particular the butterfly house.

Tonight we watched the PBS documentary on the War of 1812, which was very interesting. That war is a role model for all aspiring needless, pointless conflicts. I am glad that we are at peace with Canada.  Tecumseh interested me, as parts of his story were not familiar to me.

I read about cars for sale during my lunch hour. I daydream lately about going west, to Caprock Canyons State Park, to the meteor crater in Odessa, to the Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo. We watched a man hit a grand slam home run to win a baseball game on television.

I learned tonight that Nat King Cole had a brother. I took young Ted, age 16, for a slow walk. The clouds gave way to a blue sky.
