to the prairie

I write this from Lincoln, Nebraska, where my old friend from Arkansas Gene Garner and I just had an action-packed day. I'll write a more detailed post about all the fun we had later, but here's a picture of a common prairie bird called a dickcissel we saw in abundance at the Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center, near Denton, Nebraska. This was the start to our day, and it just kept getting more and more fun all day:
