japan interlude

I woke up at 4 in the morning and listened to my shortwave radio. The news from Australia segued into Radio Japan. I liked the feature on Osaka. I went on a business trip to Osaka once, and stayed near Osaka Palace. I do not remember, though, haggling with a merchant over octopus dough balls the way they did on the radio.

This evening we watched part of the film "lost in translation", a movie I enjoy. I had not seen it for years, and Scarlett Johansen and Bill Murray both look younger to me now. My wife reminded me that one character is a Cameron Diaz parody. Ovwr dinner at the Macaroni Grill, I told my wife tales of cold soba noodles.

My car has to go to the shop tomorrow. It has 157,000 miles on it--and brakes that sound like a metallic percussion quartet.
