My young friend and I began our day in Garland at the little pond park off Shiloh, near the George [H] Bush Tollway. The kestrel in the center above patiently let me get a snapshot.

I consulted my little "Birds of North Texas' plastic fold-up card and determined that yesterday's raptor was a northern harrier rather than a red-shouldered hawk I'll be able to tell those birds apart now.

My wife and I saw the movie "Another Year" [director: Mike Leigh] tonight. I loved the movie. My wife did not enjoy it. The Dallas Morning News gave the movie an "A" review. A couple of other patrons sided with my wife.

I like the way that both this movie and Mike Leigh's "Happy Go Lucky" tackle the questions "what makes us happy?" and "what makes us contented?".
We ate at Mama Pita's, where for a very modest cost we were fed food that was plentiful and delicious. The carrot hummus was fascinating.

I bought an album on emusic by the Swedish Recorder Quartet. I want to see the IMAX about rain forest bugs.
