Quicktime is weird.

Today I worked on the video I wish to submit to a festival taking place in these exotic islands called Orkney in this far-away place called Scotland.

I originally was going to use photographs to contrast Orkney and my part of Texas, showing how we have similarities and differences.

Then I thought it would be fun to do Texas butterflies, and shot a lot of good footage of them.

The contest called for very short videos, no more than 2 minutes, no more than 5, count them, 5 MB. The contest also called for all files to be in the native quicktime format, .mov.

I downloaded an .MOV converter, assembled a film, and then converted my little 2 minute butterfly film.

It converted from 4 MB to 300 some MB, which is, by my calculation, more than 5.

I was moved to emotion by .mov.

So I made a new video, less than 20 seconds in length.

I called it "Texas is Weird".

I compressed and scrimped and saved and chopped.

It still is over 35 MB.

I uploaded it to youtube, as I think it's mildly amusing.

But I am back to the drawing board on how to create a video only 5 MB in size while still retaining any look of fidelity.

I will figure it out. I will. By August 25, I will figure it out.

Learning is such sweet sorrow.
