pym and catfish

My wife slept in yesterday, so I headed off to White Oak Lake with my fishing rod. I had been fishing a few moments off the wooden fishing dock (translation: watching my bobber bob aimlessly, without result, while swallows flew pleasingly everywhere), when I decided to leave my rod for a moment, and get the Barbara Pym novel I'm reading (Crampton Hodnett, her "first novel she couldn't sell, published after her fame--quite a good read"). When I returned to the pole, book in hand, I found I had a small catfish on the line. I reeled it up, threw it back, and went back to reading of wayward male vicars and academic and the type of woman who appears in Pym novels often called a "small town spinster". I later committed a near-gaffe, by almost attributing a work of Muriel Spark to Barbara Pym in conversation, but recovered prior to quite elucidating the blunder. I walked the battlefield at Poison Spring State Park, a wooded pine tree trail. I could not get to the historical diorama because a heavily pregnant dog guarded it, rather like in a Eudora Welty short story.

I got an e mail from a novelty internet radio station, advising that my song "The Feeder Guppy Rescue League" has been picked up for inclusion on the show. The song got 3 stars out of 5 in the review process. I found a cheap eBay Shure mike and a really cheap mixer with mic pre-amp, so that my recordings will improve in quality.

We visited my sister, her husband, and my niece and nephew last night, after we had a great meal of fish with my father and his friend. A wonderful evening, take it all around.
