I am trying an experiment with this song, a rather rangy exhibition of lo-fi comic noise. Thus far, my highest chart position has been number 18 on the Electronica: Noise chart. I have higher hopes for "Robot Breakfast". So I launched this comprehensive DIY promotional campaign:
1. I ran an ad for the song on Soundclick.com. These ads are not very expensive, and they seem to really increase listenership.
2. I ran a "blatant self promotion" post on the soundclick.com message boards, which have also proven effective in getting listeners to the song.
3. My eBay ad for "Vibrating Electric Fields" has been restarted, along with much sillier (and hence more satisfying) ad copy, directing curious shoppers to the soundclick site; and
4. I got a really cool artist to draw me a "Robot Breakfast" illustration, which is featured in the icon to this post, and which will give the song the sense of personal destiny it deserves (oh, and many thanks to that artist, who knows who she is).
Now let's see if I'm Buddy Holly, or William Hung. I certainly seem to be more self-promoting than Buddy, so I'm afraid that may make me more like Mr. Hung.
Of course, I have my musical collaborationist, Scott_M, who makes my music listenable, for whom I am always grateful.
