things said and unsaid

In this time when people serve in difficult situations while madness causes people to slaughter aid workers, I began to look at my posts just prior to the current war. It's a curious thing, but a year and a half later, I still think many of the same things as I felt during:
my post just prior to the beginning of hostilities.

The current round of atrocities by "insurgents" makes me very sad. It also achieves the opposite of its object, at least as far as I am concerned.

I'll be glad when we live in a safer world than this. I knew the end of the Cold War had the potential for great risk as well as great possibilities, as ethnic clashes moved to the foreground. But who could have predicted these last ten years?
