Road tripping

Today is a patented gurdonark trip in which I leave DFW at 6:30 a.m., fly to SF, have a meeting, and then leave SF at 6:00 p.m., arriving in Dallas near midnight. This poses a little travel stress, but seemed far better to me than being out of town on my birthday.

Yesterday the weather here was cool and mildly stormy. The lightning was vivid, almost like some silent movie parody of lightning, where one can see the special effect is little more than incandescence.

Three years and two months ago, when I drove my lhasas across the desert from California to Texas as the "big step" in our move back to Texas (my wife being in Kansas City with her ill mom), the post-midnight drive through the Arizona portion of the trip featured much heat lightning off in the distance. No rain, no real clouds, just the flashes of fingers of electricity, off in the distance.
