veganic chocolate

I like Sprouts Market. This chain of small grocers came to our neighborhood recently. Sprouts appeals to me because its focus is fresh fruit. Beyond fruit, though, it has a curious set of products. Lots of the products have interesting names, like "One Degree Veganic Sprouted Brown Rice Cacao Crisps". This product, which I will call by the acronym "ODVSBRCC", advertises that it is flavored with "coconut palm sugar" and also grown with "no pesticides" but lots of "nutrients in the soil".

I breakfasted on a bowl of ODVSBRCC this morning. Despite or because of its acronym,it tasted pretty good, like Count Chocula pressed into the kernel size of Cocoa Krispies, all with a vaguely health, muzzy granular vibe. All this veganic charm still consumed 7 Weight Watchers smart points for a cup of cereal, a bit more than I like to ingest with my skim milk at breakfast. But it tasted pretty darn good, and that is a veganically inescapable thing.

My wife had the day off for the Martin Luther King holiday, but I went into the office.

At lunch today, I walked in Heritage Park in Sachse. I saw the little Loggerhead Shrike flit about, and several Eastern Meadowlarks foraging on the ground. I saw a Harris' Sparrow in a tree--my first sighting of that species in Heritage Park.

One of my New Year's resolutions was to turn in more bird lists to eBird.com. I made this resolution once I noticed that in 2016 I failed to turn in many lists of places I often walk. I felt my lists might be more useful if they were consistent. So far I am pleased with the results. While last year I had 103 species total, my species total mid-way through January is already at 46. Further, I get a better view of what bird counts I see at my most usual walking stops. I imagine, too, that consistent reports of non-glamorous patches about which nobody else reports is better citizen science.

After my walk, I had a turkey sandwich on wheat at Subway. I got things done this afternoon in good order. This evening I went to Taco Bueno for three soft chicken tacos, after my wife went out for dinner with a friend. I am home watching "Scorpion", while my sweet angel of a dog is barking.
