furniture sojourn

Saturday I woke at 5:30 a.m. to the sound of my cell phone's ringtone. I started the day a bit behind, because by 5:30 a.m. I promised to be at my brother's house, one suburb over. I threw on my clothes, called to let him know I planned to head his way, grabbed my things, and headed over.

We drove to Arkansas in his Cadillac. First we headed to El Dorado, Arkansas. we visited a used appliance store called Doe's. Doe's doubled as a U-Haul rental place.
A nice woman named Lisa met us there, after we let her know via text of our ETA.
She rented us a 17' moving truck. Then we drove the forty minutes to Camden, my parents' home town. My brother drove the truck, while I drove his Cadillac. I found his car powerful and easy to drive. We met up with my brother's son and his girlfriend at my father's house. We all went to lunch at Camden's Chinese restaurant, called by the simple name Chinese Buffet.

We then dispatched my nephew and his girlfriend to visit my father's wife. We guided them to the right house, and then went to my father's house. Then my brother and I loaded some items into the van. It took us two hours, all told. We worked very efficiently. I found myself pleased that the two of us worked so well and productively together.

I noticed as well that both my strength and my stamina amount to less than during younger eras of my life. Nephew and girlfriend arrived and helped, and then we sent them on their way.

My brother drove the van back to Texas, with me following in his car. We completed the trip very quickly, due to few stops. I listened to the radio as I drove. We saw lots of susans and daisies in bloom. We arrived home by 7:15 p.m. I slept easily and well last night.
