Container flowers

A big thunderstorm rolled through last night. Our dog Beatrice barked at the thunder. I wonder how many things about which one complains amounts to barking at thunder. I hope this all means May flowers.

small town courthouse

Wise County Courthouse

I drove today from my office to Decatur, Texas, population about 5,500, northwest of the metroplex. I passed open fields and groves of "cross timbers" trees. When I stopped for gas, the wind must have been blowing at 30 m.p.h. or more.

The Wise County Courthouse is a lovely town-square courthouse, built in 1895. A placard inside the courthouse described how the politicians whose votes authorized it were voted from office over its cost. I was able to enjoy a lunch of grilled chicken across the street from the courthouse. As I drove home, vultures soared at high speed through the barely relenting wind.
