I read a good bit of the current update of the Official Rules of Chess as a prelude to asking for my expired Tournament Director status to be reinstated. There are more rules than there was in 1980something when I first became a TD. I tried to sort out which free software permits Swiss system pairing, and tried in vain to extract from a tar.gz file to do an install of Vega. I also tried to run WinTD or Swisssys using WINE on these windows program. Neither worked. I'm sure someone must have written a good primitive pairing software--but I am also sure I should be able to sort out how to install Vega. I prefer to pair by hand with index cards, but I suppose it is 2022. Our dog Sparrow shows no lack of verve.
