Fritillary

On August 12, I turned 62 years old.  I had a quiet day that day.

I raised my Collin County bird count to 104 species during 2021. I played in some on-line chess tournaments, with middling to less-than-middling results, though I did draw a game with a higher-rated player using a Stonewall Attack.

Last Sunday I drove to Collin Park on Lavon Lake. This park is mostly picnic tables and picnic areas near a beach, as well as a small boat marina. I wandered the open areas, seeing some 10 bird species. But my best photographs were of Eastern Pondhawk dragonflies.

Yesterday and today we have spent the days in Georgetown, Texas, in central Texas 30 miles above Austin. Georgetown has a lovely downtown as well as great parks.  We went today to Berry Springs Park and Preserve a few miles outside of town. I logged 13 bird species including a Yellow-Billed Cuckoo. We saw Giant and also Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies and Gulf Fritillary Butterflies.

We went to Inner Space Cavern in Georgetown, Texas. I had not toured the cave in years. I had a good time.

I also liked the shops downtown in Georgetown.
