The next-to-last week of Christmas

Most years I like the week between Christmas and New Year's as a good time for work. My phone rarely rings. Things are quiet. I can come in a bit late. I can leave a bit early. This year I instead find myself very busy with things to do these last four days of the year.

Beatrice is still a very good dog. We have to watch to make sure she goes out, as she rarely uses her doggy door on her own on a chilly or rainy day. Though this is a la nina December, and theoretically warmer and more dry, we have had chilly and rainy days. Today looks to be rainy thought not chilly. We use a bit of creative space restriction to protect Beatrice from erring.

My wife made gingerbread men. I like the recipe she uses--not too cake-like, not too tart, and not too sweet. If I must choose between tart and cake, I choose cake. If I must choose between sweet and subtle, I choose molasses.
