I got up early, ate my oatmeal, put on a suit and tie, and caught the 7:25 a.m. train from Plano to West End Station in Dallas. I walked from there to the district courthouse on Commerce. I signed in for my volunteer work as one of dozens of judges of the city-wide high school moot court competition. The work took up most of the morning, as I served as one of four judges for a mock trial pitting one school against another. Each school had 3 students in 'lawyer' roles and 3 students in 'witness' roles. I liked the kids' enthusiasm and willingness to try something new and unfamiliar. Even the least skilled of the two groups showed a lot of heart.
After my part was over, I caught the train back to Plano and then ate grilled chicken at a KFC in Allen. I came home and walked Beatrice around the pond. Then I took a 90 minute walk on the Watters Trail. I came home and logged my bird sightings into ebird.com. I read on the internet encouraging words about lots of on-line friends who participated in marches across the country.
In the evening we met our friends Scott and Donna at Cafe Istanbul in Plano. I had a great tilapia filet with roast potatoes and sauteed chicken. We then watched and enjoyed the movie "Hidden Figures".
