quiet friday after thanksgiving

I woke up at 3 a.m. after a dream about a small start-up company which stressed health solutions not requiring a physician's care. I went to see if my phone was charging correctly. Sometimes it is inconsistent about the wall charger. This morning was one of those times. I switched it to USB charging. I stayed up until 3.30 a.m., browsing the internet. I looked to my side to find Beatrice on her little bed next to my chair.

I went back to sleep at 3:30, and slept until morning. I breakfasted on Kix cereal and skim milk. Then I showered, dressed warmly, and headed out to walk to Glendover Park and then to Green Park. During my walk, I counted 17 species of bird. I snapped pictures of Northern Mockingbirds and Blue Jays.

Here are the species I saw:

Gadwall 8
Mallard 22
American Coot 1
Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) 22
White-winged Dove 4
Downy Woodpecker 1
Northern Flicker 1
Eastern Phoebe 1
Blue Jay 9
American Crow 4
American Robin 3
Northern Mockingbird 4
European Starling 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler 2
Dark-eyed Junco 3
Northern Cardinal 1
Great-tailed Grackle 2
House Sparrow 4

When I returned home, my wife and I went to Elke's, the pleasant sandwich place here in Allen. I had a roast beef sandwich on a multi-grain called "hippy bread", along with a salad without dressing. My wife had roast chicken.

After lunch, I held the ladder as my wife changed the HVAC air filters. I listed our old mantle on eBay for quick sale. I read about the Texas strain of the regionalist artists, and in particular Jerry Bywaters. I was intrigued to learn he painted a WPA mural in the post office at Farmersville. I bird in Farmersville regularly, but never stopped by the post office. I will stop there next time to see the mural. I was impressed to read how as curator of the Dallas Museum of Art he stood tall to help the museum weather extreme McCarthyite turbulence during the 1950s.

I sorted and did some laundry. I watched a football game in which my uni alma mater squandered a lead and lost to a lesser team who played harder. I took Beatrice for a walk, which she enjoyed.

My wife left in the late afternoon to have dinner with a friend. I stopped at a Kentucky Fried Chicken for three pieces of white meat grilled chicken, corn on the cob nd green beans, with a biscuit.

At home, I took a "black dog friday" picture of Beatrice.

I read the sci-fi and the fantasy books I am reading using my computer as an ereader. I logged in my morning's sightings into ebird. com. I listened to music by the following artists:
Entertainment for the Braindead
C. Reider
Safir Nou
