feathered friends

Friday evening we went to the pleasant chain restaurant Rockfish Cafe at its McKinney location. The special menu featured two new light menu choices. One choice, a Tuscan bean soup, looked quite appealing, despite the presence of orzo, one of my less-favorite starches. The other, a poached trout with spinach and pasta, looked
grand as well. I ordered a bowl of the former and a dinner order of the latter.

The soup turned out to be a bit bland, which I thought a bit unusual in a hearty Tuscan soup. The poached trout, by contrast, proved to be full of interesting flavors from the accompanying vegetables and mushrooms. Overall I enjoyed the meal quite well.

I am at 95+% health again. I decided to get up early and drive to Lake Ray Roberts, Johnson Branch, for the Flying Feathered Friends Bird Walk. Though another family was also signed up, only Ranger Danielle and I made it to the walk. As we finished, that family, a father and his boys, arrived to take the 10 a.m. walk, so that they did not miss out.

We went to the first part of the walk, near the little Children's Pond,a little fishing pond which trees surround the small pond. This area provides that admixture of woods and open spaces that birds love. The morning was cold but with a warming sun, bringing birds out to feed. We saw lots of species. Here is my eBird list:

I picked up an oatmeal at McDonald's on the way home. I found myself impressed at how hard the team there worked on a very busy day,all the while showing courtesy to customers.

On my drive home, I listened to WRR 101.1 play a fine recording of George Enescu's Romanian Rhapsody Number 1. Now the weather is a bit warmer than is seasonal, and I plan to enjoy it to the fullest.
